For Indian-born, Portland-based businessman Nitin Khanna, entrepreneurship has always been a big part of his life. This is because entrepreneurship has always been a big part of his family and his upbringing. The course of his career has seen Nitin Khanna attain a sound educational background which was followed up by a formative period of work experience. He then entered into the realm of business creation that has seen him found companies in the realms of software, mergers and acquisitions solutions, and the rapidly expanding cannabis industry. Through it all, Nitin has always remembered the lessons that he learned from members of his family early on in life while he was growing up in the northern Indian province of Himachal Pradesh. He took the lessons in entrepreneurship that were imparted by his family seriously and has found ways to consistently utilize them as he relocated to the United States of America with other members of his family when he reached seventeen years of age.

Shortly after arriving in the United States at the age of seventeen, Nitin Khanna enrolled at West Lafayette, Indiana’s Purdue University. During his time at the school, he turned his focus to the field of industrial engineering. He excelled in his studies and finished them with the attainment of his degree. It was at this point that Nitin Khanna turned his attention to kicking off a highly successful professional life.

The first place that Nitin Khanna landed upon completion of his industrial engineering degree at Purdue was with the International Paper company. He took on the role of Manufacturing Engineer with the firm and proceeded to attain some solid professional experience. In 1994, he left the firm to pursue his next career stop. This was with the Oracle firm. At Oracle, Nitin Khanna worked as a Senior Consultant. He remained in this capacity until 1998 when he decided it was time to pursue his dream of founding his own company. This occurred in 1999 when he joined forces with his brother in order to create a unique and innovative software firm.

The firm that Nitin Khanna and his brother created in 1999 was called Saber Software. The firm quickly attained acclaim for its high-quality software products and this brought Nitin and his software team to the attention of the state of Oregon. The firm won the contract to provide the software to administrate the state’s election proceedings and this software was soon adopted by a number of other states. The massive success with this contract led to Nitin Khanna being able to grow the firm into an organization that employed more than 1500 individuals and brought in hundreds of millions of dollars yearly. When he sold Saber Software in 2007, he was able to bring in an impressive price tag of $460 million.

Since his sale of Saber Sofware, Nitin Khanna has focussed his attention on the industries of cannabis and mergers and acquisitions. He has pursued his interests with the former as the founder of CuraCannabis Solutions and the latter as the founder of Mergertech.
