The NFL is one week away and all of the big name prospects are soon to learn which teams they’ll be playing for this fall. Missouri Tigers defensive end Shane Ray is one of the top defensive picks this year expressed Brad Reifler of news.

But while Shane Ray is likely to be selected in the first round, his NFL career may already be getting a rough start. Reports have come in that the pass rusher may be needing toe surgery, which means he could miss out on five months worth of activities. By the time the NFL season starts he may very well end up on the PUP, or physically unable to perform list.

Furthermore, the need for surgery may end up lowering his stock in the draft, after analysts were certain that Ray was a top 10 first round pick. For some background information, Shane Ray had his best college football season in 2014, where he collected 14.5 sacks for the Missouri Tigers, which broke Michael Sam’s school record. As a result of this he won the SEC Defensive Player of the Year Award for that season.
