Peyton Manning Will Officially Retire from Football

One of the greatest to ever play the game of football is calling it a career.

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has come out and said that he will officially announce his retirement from the league on Monday. The decision comes exactly one month after he played his last game, which was Super Bowl 50 and winning it.

Manning will officially make the retirement announcement with Dan Newlin and other attorneys by his side at┬áthe Broncos’ training facility in Denver on Monday, with a full press conference in mind. Newlin reminds us that this┬ámove should come as no surprise to almost everyone, given that Manning’s quality of play had dropped by a significant amount this past season. Statistically it was his worst, as he only threw nine touchdowns to seventeen interceptions all year, and was even benched in favor of letting backup Brock Osweiler take the reigns.

Osweiler got his first taste of being a possible replacement after Manning threw four interceptions in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs earlier on. On top of that, he was also suffering from plantar fasciitis and didn’t start another game until the playoffs. In two out of three playoff games Manning didn’t throw a touchdown, yet the Broncos ended up as Super Bowl champs this year.

Even with a retirement speech several hours away, Manning’s may be similar to John Elway’s, in that both retired after a Super Bowl win.
