As one of the most well-known female entrepreneurs and engineers, Smita Shah is certainly no stranger to success in the world of business but many women around the world are struggling with getting ahead in the workplace due to lack of female role models and the occasional scarcity of self-esteem. Fortunately, however, she has recently provided these females with a list of how best to excel in their careers and how to attain success in the world of entrepreneurship. The first tip is to have confidence in yourself as she believes the main obstacle preventing them from getting ahead is due to poor self-image. This is why it’s important to respect yourself or else nobody else will. In that same vein, the next tip is to assess your own skills.

The simple fact of the matter is if you are able, to be honest with yourself about your own skills and capabilities, you’ll be able to make better decisions and learn how to become more resilient throughout your career. It’s also important to dress for success as this will make you appear professional and you will gain respect from your colleagues. This includes wearing business attire and having good posture to show people how serious you are about your work. One of the most important aspects is to make sure no one else takes credit for your achievements. The story of your career can inspire others but not if you let people step all over you. Learn more:

When you’re working, it’s important to focus on your short term career goals rather than looking too far into the future as that will enable you to maintain your success while providing you with the chance to learn more and more about the business industry. Back in the old days, many women were relegated to such servile positions as secretaries and assistants. That’s why it’s important not to comply with these stereotypes or else you’ll set back the women’s movement at least 100 years. As someone who is Indian, she knows all about what it’s like to get stuck in a subservient role as part of their culture which is exactly why it’s important not to let these stereotypes hold you back and assert yourself whenever it proves necessary.

As a businesswoman, it may also be necessary sometimes to pull rank on your employees and have them address you by your full title and name to ensure they know who the boss is. If you lay down the law early on, they will not only respect you more but they’ll be more inclined to do good work for you. You should also be delegating your workload to other employees as this will prevent you from having to bring your work home with you. And, finally, you should always take time off when you need it as being an entrepreneur can be very daunting. This includes a mental health day or simply just having a day to decompress and relax before heading back to work.
