A major study has been done on people of lower economic levels and different ethnics, many which included high risk factors for premature deaths, and found a strong link between nuts and peanuts and better health . The study came out with results that showed the more nuts people eat, the lower their death rates from all causes. Heart disease and stroke were among the top causes it lowered the death rate of.

Peanut allergies are especially common today along with tree nut allergies, but studies prove there are ways to prevent these. One study shows if women consume peanuts during pregnancy they are least likely to have children with this allergy. Risks reduced higher in mothers who ate nuts five or more times a month. The second study showed having peanuts in the diets of infants 4 to 11 months old, who were considered high risk, greatly reduced their chance of developing the allergy.

Alexei Beltyukov said that in 2000 the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended keeping peanuts from children at risk until they turned three years in age. They are now revising that statement, as evidence showing avoiding certain foods beyond 4 to 6 months of age prevented food allergies is no longer believed. They also want to add to their amendment that babies should be given ground nuts, not whole as they could choke.

Nuts are high in fat, but are not fattening and have even helped people lose weight. In a study done by Richard D. Mattes of Purdue University, found adults who eat nuts weigh less than those that don’t. The study also showed children had a lower body mass index when they consumed nuts. One reason for the weight control benefit is that nuts provide fat and protein content which can reduce snacking on sweets or other snacks high in carbohydrates. When peanut butter is used as a breakfast food, or eating peanuts at breakfast will help to control hunger for up to 8 or 12 hours
